Miss Porter’s School – Ecuador: March 14 – 20

Update #2:

Greetings from San Cristobal Island,
We had an excellent day snorkelling with sea lions, green sea turtles, manta rays and even Galapagos sharks at Kicker Rock, and eroding volcanic tuft island off the coast. A picnic lunch in a pristine ocean cove and an ice cream on the boardwalk (see photo) rounded out the afternoon. Tomorrow it´s back to Quito for a final meal overlooking the city´s historic center before flying home on Sunday!

Update #1:

Puerto Villamil on Isabela Island.

Greetings from beautiful Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos, Ecuador!

The Miss Porter´s crew is having a great time with everyone happy and healthy. We arrived in Galapagos on Sunday afternoon and went directly to the beach to swim and enjoy our first tropical sunset (see photo) at the beach in Puerto Villamil on Isabela Island.

Tuesday morning we were up early for an ascent of the Sierra Negra volcano which boasts the second widest crater in the world!

Today –Wednesday– started with a snorkeling excursion in a coral lagoon off the coast of Isabela Island followed by a naturalist walk around Isla de las Tintoreras where we observed (up close) marine iguanas, lava lizards, sea lions, Galapagos penguins and Blue-footed Boobies! We also learned about mangrove and coral reef ecosystems and food chains.

Sierra Negra Volcano Everyone is having a happy, educational and healthy time and we are off the the island of San Cristobal tomorrow.

Yours,

Peter Shear
