Alumni as both a Global Works Leader and Office Homie, Katie Doyle Myers continues to pursue her creativity and passion to help others. Katie and her son Finn, who is four, recently participated in the “100 Book Day.” Katie and Finn contacted Reading Village about their challenge, which was to read 100 books in a day as a fundraiser tool to support literacy in Guatemala.
Splitting 100 books into groups of 10, they incorporated all of them into their day – starting at 6am! Mid day they visited the public library in Louisville, inviting the public to participate in the 100 Book Day event. Their day ended with Goodnight Gorilla.

“A mother reading to her son is exactly the kind of intergenerational cycle we are trying to repair in Guatemala, and it is so beautifully appropriate for Katie and Finn to be raising funds in this way,” says Smith from Reading Village.
Reading Village is an organization that reaches out to Guatemalan children who are living in poverty and promotes literacy to young students. Katie said she thought her book day “might be a neat way to raise awareness… and spend a meaningful day with Finn.”
