Dream Town – Valley of Chota, Ecuador

Global Works just learned of this film-in-the-making today called “Dream Town” from our Peru and Ecuador leader, Jordan Bailey.  This documentary tells the story of the Valley of Chota in Ecuador. This is the community where  Jordan spent three years as a Peace Corps Volunteer, and the people there are very near and dear to him (in fact, he just visited them this past week!).

An amazing aspect of this Afro-Ecuadorian community is that they are incredible soccer players – 50% of the Ecuadorian national team actually hails from this small, poor, rural community. The film-makers are in the process of raising awareness and funds to complete the editing process of the film. Check it out on Kickstarter. (more…)

Local Community Involvment

Volunteering can foster positive effects in your community while also contributing to your own successes. By giving back, you develop a greater understanding of your community and create strong bonds with the people you are working with and helping.  The Global Works community encourages you to begin volunteering in your local area, school or with a group of friends.

There are numerous organizations that can offer volunteer opportunities in your community using your own ideas!  For example, Dosomething.org gives you the power to create your own community service event, choose an area of interest, decide where you want to have your event and pick the date and time to hold it.
