100 Book Day – Reading for a Cause – 2010

Katie and Finn are gearing up for the 2010 100 Book Day! Last year this reading pair were keeping the library busy with their book marathon – 100 Book Day – Reading for a Cause – 2009

100 Book day started with Katie, a supporter of Reading Village, and her four-year-old son who read 100 books and raised $1,000 for Reading Village! They had a great time and are participating again this year on November 27th.

Check out this message from Katie: There are so many exciting things going on for 100 Book Day which is less than 2 weeks away on SATURDAY NOVEMBER 27th! I wanted to let you know about a few of our incredible stories…
* Cami and Avery’s entire Preschool is on board to read with us!
* Tobin is warming up by reading 20 books a night!
* Myles and his 3-year-old buddies are doing their own “100 Book Month”!

College Students: Alternative Winter Break – Guatemala

Global Works Custom Group Travel has teamed up with Limitless Horizons Ixil (LHI) and Brown University for a service-based travel program in the community of Chajul, Guatemala. For the past three years students have been been working alongside community members on a variety of projects including: installing cement floors in an elementary school, preparing Chajul’s first public library, planting vegetable gardens and facilitating sports events.  They also spend time learning about the Mayan culture, hiking to beautiful waterfalls in the area, learning the art of tortilla making and spending time with families in the community. For the first time, we are opening this program up to all college students! We invite students from all Universities and Colleges to join other thoughtful travelers from around the world for service, learning and adventure. When? January 10 – 21, 2011.
