Apply Now – Youth Global Leadership

The Philanthropiece Foundation just announced that they are now recruiting new members for the Youth Global Leadership (YGL) Program. The mission of YGL is to: “Address issues, both locally and globally, through direct change in communities worldwide. YGL works to inspire and develop a new generation of leaders with a goal of fostering relationships, involving the world’s youth in change. Their emphasis is on cultural exchange, sustainability.”

Recipe from Abroad – Argentina

What is Argentine cuisine?  Argentina is highly influenced by Europe, and reflects this in its cuisine. Food here is generally a variation of Mediterranean cooking, with a large emphasis on the products that are easily grown in the area, namely beef cattle and wheat.

Global Works leader Katie explains, “After spending the summer in Argentina, I’d explain  the typical foods to include mate, empanada, steak and dulce de leche.  Of all the Argentinian snacks enjoyed – empanadas were my favorite!”

An empanada is a Spanish stuffed bread or pastry. The name comes from the verb, empanar, meaning to wrap or coat in bread – yum!  In today’s recipe, you will read about authentic Empanadas Mendocinas, Mendoza style Empanadas.  Mendoza style empanadas are a bit different from other types because they are baked rather than fried.
